Genuinejobs logoAfter arriving at Genuinejobs.com, a job seeker is greeted with a letter from Jen, the operations manager, in which she explains that the website will find the seeker a job whether they’re a student, stay-at-home-mom or an everyday worker. The best news in the letter is that their service is free.

Most job search sites require a fee for signing up to get updates or for applying to jobs but Genuinejobs.com does not. The site makes money by charging companies who wish to post open positions and allowing a slew of advertisements on each page. Many of the ads seem like spam but, if the ads mean less spam in the listings, then it’s really the lesser of two evils. A job seeker has the option to sign up with the site in order to receive email alerts of new job listings; however, this isn’t necessary to apply for positions.

The site serves as a bridge between job seekers and open positions. They do not hide which company posted the job listing and do not require you to apply for the position within their site; each posting has different contact information. This also means Genuinejobs.com does not have a relationship with the companies whose job listings are on the site.

It isn’t clear how Genuinejobs.com finds the open job listings or how they filter out those that may be spam but, when looking through the open positions, the majority seem legitimate. While searching for jobs on the site, the only form of filtering is by searching for a specific keyword in the search box; there are no location or category filter options. This can be a downfall if an individual is searching for something specific but it won’t inhibit a general search.

The site has many different job openings for a variety of skills and talent levels. They also say that their listings are full-telecommute, although a few sound like the company expects an employee to come in part time wherever they are located (which also isn’t always obvious).

Genuinejobs.com should be kept in mind as a legitimate telecommuting job site; however, it need not be at the top of anyone’s list. The site has a plethora of good jobs, but some there have been complaints that they do not update with new positions frequently. If they don’t update as frequently as you like, it might be useful to subscribe to their newsletter of new positions rather than checking the site every day.
